Day 1
Series Objectives
Identify the impact of various medications on cardiac parameters as observed through echocardiographic findings in critically ill patients.
List the cardiovascular complications of cancer treatments and their impact on patients' heart health, with a focus on early detection through echocardiography.
Recognize key echocardiographic features for accurate diagnosis and risk stratification in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Identify common echocardiographic methods for assessing right ventricular function and hemodynamics and the clinical significance of impaired right
Compare the utility and limitations of computed tomography (CT) and echocardiography in pre-procedural evaluation for left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) procedures.
Examine the strengths and limitations of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and echocardiography in assessing left ventricular (LV) function, volumes, and mitral regurgitation, and their complementary roles.
Describe the principles and types of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) used in the treatment of advanced heart failure, and recognize the role of echocardiography in their management.
Compare the differences in echocardiographic assessment and challenges encountered in single ventricle patients across different life stages.
Identify the key objectives and applications of fetal echocardiography in prenatal cardiac assessment, and its role in early diagnosis and intervention planning for congenital heart defects.
Describe the anatomy, physiology, and unique challenges associated with single ventricle physiology, and evaluate echocardiographic findings for accurate diagnosis and assessment.
Explore the concept of staged palliation and its role in managing single ventricle patients, with a focus on echocardiographic markers for timing and feasibility.
Identify the long-term complications and challenges faced by teen and adult patients with Fontan circulation, and discuss the value of multimodality imaging, including echocardiography.
Recognize the importance of ergonomics in the healthcare setting, particularly in echocardiography laboratories and its impact on the well-being of healthcare professionals.
Define medical burnout and its potential causes and consequences, and discuss strategies and resources for preventing and managing burnout in the healthcare industry.
Discuss the importance of mentorship in professional development and career advancement, and engage in discussions about career pathways and opportunities in echocardiography and related fields.
This will represent the 29th annual GKCES Symposium!!! This could not be possible without the effort and commitment of everyone who has attended both in the past and in the future! Thank you to all of you.
